Step 4: Track Time & Productivity!

Ever feel like the more you do yourself the less you get done? Most business owners work far too hard for the return they get. They have too many details to attend to and not enough time to focus on the big things that make them the most money.

As we discussed in previous articles on Building a Better Business, step one begins with a picture of what you want. It develops into a written plan of action and a shift in the way you work “on” vs. “in” your business. Step two is to always make a profit. The only way to make a profit is to know your numbers and make them a top priority in your. Step three is to standardise your financial controls and systems. Step four is to ensure productivity and team time effectiveness.

How Productive am I?

Productivity/ Time Test

Answer Yes/ No to the following:

  1. I have done a time audit for a week & understand exactly where time wastage occurs. I am actively doing something about this
  2. I assign a regular time in which I plan the following week & prioritise my key activities.
  3. I use daily / weekly “To Do Lists” and ensure my team uses them too.
  4. I work “ON” my Business for a minimum of 4 hours per week.
  5. I regularly review my low enjoyment/low value tasks and consistently try to delegate/outsource them.
  6. I have time slots in my diary for my own health and enjoyment – realising that life balance is important to the productivity of my business.
  7. I have and use a default diary for my weekly tasks

Employ methods to track time usage – stop being busy and start becoming productive by using time more effectively. Become aware of what your Return on Investment is for your and your team’s time.
